    Join us for another Acrylic Painting Class! We are highlighting Lillian Thomas Burwell, a prominent black painter and sculptor renowned for her use of abstraction in her artwork. Her painting “Joy” showcases this interest in the abstract, while also conveying serenity through organic shapes and brushstrokes. Students in this class will learn basics of color mixing in this almost monochrome palette, as well as how to use a reference photo to replicate images on canvas. Each student will leave with a completed 16×20 painting on canvas, ready to hang at home. This class is suitable for all levels of acrylic artist.

    In this class, students will learn drawing skills that will allow you to draw objects and scenes right in front of you! There is no need for reference photos when we have the world around us. We'll learn time tested observational drawing exercises through contour drawing practices. You'll come away with multiple drawings and a set of skills that you can practice at home with only pen and paper. Participants are encouraged to bring a few items from home that you find interesting: shells, small plants, feathers, trinkets, or whatever you find visually interesting!

    In this month's watercolor class, we will be creating a monochromatic and hazy landscape inspired by Madelynn Ave. In this class, students will learn how to mix color using a limited palette, blending on canvas to give a blurred effect, and fine brush strokes to create delicate branches. By the end of class, you will walk away with more refined painting skills, and a work of art ready to hang at home. This class is suitable for all levels of acrylic artist.

    All supplies included. This is a step-by-step class, so please arrive by the stated start of class; late arrivals may miss steps that can’t be revisited.

    Ages 14 and up.

    This class will be held in the Pavilion, in the building adjacent to the Lake Mansion. Park in our free lot off Arlington Avenue and walk up the stairs, the Pavilion is on your right.
