• Friday Watercolor Class: The Blue Rigi by J.M.W. Turner

    Join us at the Lake Mansion to re-create the famous Blue Rigi by Joseph Mallord William Turner. Turner is renowned for his sweeping maritime landscapes, but The Blue Rigi is one in a series of three paintings of the Swiss Alps, and is considered by some to be his legacy. Students will learn to capture the subtle light and delicate washes used by Turner to capture the landscapes of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, as well as composition, color mixing, and blending. Whether a beginner, intermediate, or advanced watercolor artist, this class is suitable for all skill levels.

    Join us at the Lake Mansion for another Intro to Science Illustration class! In this workshop, we will be delving into Entomology: the study of insects. Get an up-close look at real specimens from UNR's Natural History Museum to see just how beautiful bugs can be! In this class, you will study, sketch, and paint a variety of insects. This is a great class to learn observational illustration and walk away with some beautiful watercolors of cool critters! All supplies included. There will be a 15-minute break halfway through the class.
