Discovering Art at Any Age: Watercolors from the Estate of Jerry Sleight (1921-2014)

(Reno, Nev.) Jerry Sleight discovered his artistic talent at age 77.  To celebrate his story, Arts for All Nevada is honored to showcase “Discovering Art at Any Age: Watercolors from the Estate of Jerry Sleight” at the Lake Mansion from September 1 – 30, 2015.   The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The subject of most of Jerry’s watercolors encompasses landscapes along the northern coast of California. While living in Sausalito for most of his adult life, he joined the California Watercolor Association, the Marin Watercolor Society and the Marin Society of Artists, where he was a Signature Member. After moving to Reno in 2007, he was delighted to find a wealth of beautiful scenery surrounding Reno to further inspire his love of landscape painting.

Jerry stopped painting in 2012 and graciously donated his art supplies to Arts for All Nevada allowing others who may not be able to afford their own brushes, paints and canvases to continue painting.  When Jerry passed away in 2014, his estate donated many of his framed and unframed paintings to Arts for All Nevada to sell and use the proceeds for additional arts programming for children and adults of all ages and all abilities.  The art is affordably priced to allow many art lovers to share in Jerry’s engaging work placing the viewer into the mood and place of his paintings.

The historic Lake Mansion, built in 1877 and listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, is located on the corner of Court St. and Arlington Ave., one block south of the Truckee River. Free parking is available in the Lake Mansion lot off Arlington Ave.

Along with diverse programming for specific populations across the state, Arts for All Nevada boasts a year-round calendar of open-to-the-public classes, camps and art festivals for children and adults of all ages and abilities.
